Fog

Micaela Chirif / Carmen Cardemil
Santiago: Amanuta, 2018
ISBN: 978-956-364-076-2

The fog has crept in through the open window of Amalia’s room. The fog is so white and so dense that the bedroom has turned into a huge cloud… what will Amalia find in there?

Comments

The protagonist is a girl who perceives how the fog enters her room. The textures, the aromas, the colors are discovered by Amalia who, through these sensory stimuli, is capable of giving herself over to an oceanic adventure plagued by pelicans, cormorants, walking octopuses or fish with legs and three fins.
The green, blue and gray tones, accentuated by the materiality of the book, accompany Chirif’s poetic narrative. A perfect complement for the strokes that emulate children’s drawings on walls, doors and any other surface that is in the way. As if it were a typical children’s drawing, which could originate on a simple piece of paper and then overflows beyond any limit; likewise, Amalia’s world grows more and more, entering the dark depths of the ocean where she will discover an immensity of marine animals.
